The Inspector General of Police, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Zulfiqar Hameed, visited Police Training College Hangu on 25 June 2025 and announced that efforts were under way to upgrade the institution into a full-fledged police academy.

During the visit the Inspector General awarded certificates to the participants of the 18th Advance Course, the senior course conducted at the College. He acknowledged the contribution the College has made to professional law enforcement training since the inception of Pakistan.

An expanding role

PTC Hangu was established as a police recruit centre in 1935, upgraded to a training school in 1938, and granted the status of a Police Training College in 1991. It remains the oldest police training institution of the province.

Its intake is no longer confined to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The College now provides specialised training to personnel of law enforcement agencies from across the country, a role that the proposed upgrade to academy status is intended to formalise and support.

The Advance Course

The Advance Course sits at the top of the promotional structure taught at Hangu, above the Lower, Intermediate and Upper Courses. It is attended by officers of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police and by officers nominated from other agencies.

Alongside the promotional courses, the College conducts the Basic Recruit Course and a set of specialised courses in weapon handling, gas, section and platoon command, and drill.
